Species: Brown-headed Cowbird (Molothrus ater)
Location: Lenexa, Johnson County, Kansas, United States
Age: adult     Plumage: basic/year-round     Activity: perching/standing
Sex: female     Visibility: full body     Quantity: single
Photographer: David Seibel     Date: June 26, 2013
Equipment: Canon EOS-1D Mark IV and Canon 500mm f/4L IS     Megapixels: 7.1

Notes: This bird frequented my feeders for several weeks. When it first appeared its left foot was dangling by threads of connective tissue. The foot eventually fell off, leaving the sharp broken end of the tarsometatarsus exposed, but the bird adapted to balancing on one foot or, as here, leaning lightly on the stub.
